Book week parade

On the 26th of August everyone came to school dressed up as there favourite character. Well some people came in there school uniform because they couldn't find a costume to wear. Nearly the whole school came dressed up as characters from Harry Potter. I came as Ginny from Harry Potter and everyone was saying I was Hermione because I went as her last year but Hermione doesn't have orange hair.  When we did the parade nearly everyone got interviewed. If you did get interviewed all you had to do was say what character. I had a great day.

WATER

Water is good. Water is great. Water is a Battle of the Brains group.
I drink water. I swim in water. I wash myself in water. I can't last without water. Water. Water. Water. People say it is blue. IT IS NOT!! It is clear. Water. Water. Water. It has no flavour if it comes from the tap. BUT. It is refreshing. Mmmmm......Mmmmmm.....Mmmmm....
Yum. Yum!

Assembly

Nana played the piano at assembly this morning. She played Nocturne  by Chopin and we were very impressed by her amazing skills as a pianist. She has been learning since she was in Prep and is practising very hard for her Grade Eight exam later on in the year. Good Luck Nana, I am sure you will do very well. It was lovely to see some special visitors come to watch her play.

Circus Skills

On Tuesday 3rd of May our class started circus skills. On our first lesson we did the spinning plates, Diablo and huge hula-hoops. I thought the Diablo was fun but I'm not good at it. The hoops was fun as well it was hard for me to do tricks. And the plates were quite simple for me because I have plates at home and I practise a lot.

The following Tuesday we did Devil sticks scarves and poi.Oh~ the person that thought us was called Ben his pretty awesome. I found devil sticks pretty hard and I'm also not good at it. The scarves and poi was easier but you will still need practise to get it perfect.

UNSW Computer Skills Test

On the 24th of May, some 3's, 4's, 5's and 6's in an University of New South Wales (UNSW) Computer Skills test. There weren't a lot of people so I think I'll do well. There were 35 questions and 35 minutes to complete the test, so that kind of made me extra nervous. The first few questions were pathetic like: 'What cell is selected?' A:C1  B:A1  C:C2  D:E6.  The later questions were more difficult like: 'How do you find the average of column 5?'.  There are 5 other UNSW tests: Science, Spelling, Writing, English and Mathematics. Most people compete in Mathematics... so it's hard to get a good certificate. Writing is hard to get a good score, but you only need about half to get a good certificate. There are 5 different types of certificates/prizes, Participation (Bottom 80% of your state), Credit (Top 20-11% of your state), Distinction (Top 10-2% of your state), High Distinction (Top 1% of your state) and Medal (Top score in your state). Overall, I think I did pretty well in the Computer Skills Test.

Circus Skills

This term in 5A, we are doing circus skills. We do it every Tuesday in the morning. The person who teaches us is called Ben. In the first few weeks, we tried the main equipment. I liked the diablos the most because you can do lots of tricks with it. The diablo looks easy but can get hard. Last year my class did the sock poi for the show. They are just like football socks with a soft round ball stuffed inside at the end. One of the hardest equipment is the stilts. It also very dangerous. The reason why the stilts is very hard is because it is very hard to balance on it. In circus skills, we do a performance every two years. But this year we are doing something else. I look forward to doing more circus skills!

Cross Country

On Tuesday the 24th of May everyone who got in the top 7 from cross country trials went to cross country district. 9 and 10 year olds had to do 2 kilometers and 11, 12 and 13 year olds had to do 3 kilometers. The age groups where 9 and 10s together, 11s by themself and 12 and 13s together. By the way girls and boys do not race together. Finnaly it was 24th of May, when we arrived there I was really nervous but also excited. I was in the 11 year old age group. When i started the race we went down a hill then there wasn't a lot hills hills to go across. There was a few but not a big hill, just mini ones. At one bit of the race there was there was mud  I got it on my shoes, legs and my back! To get to the next level you need to get in the top 10. I came 7th out of about 30 something so I will go to zone! Sarah so got in for her age group, she came 6th. I can't wait till zone cross country.

Cross country

On Tuesday the 16th of May all the 3,4,5&6 went to the Springfield Oval to do cross country.
We had to walk there because it was quite near and it took us about 6 or7 minutes to get there.
All the kids that were 8 or 9 turning 10  had to run 2 laps, but if they were turning 11 and still 10 they had to run 3 laps.
After we had finished running we all went back to school.

District Cross Country

On the 24th of May Grade 3,4,5 and 6's winners in the cross country from our House Cross Country had made into District Cross Country.

The dstrict was really tiring even though our House Cross Country race was a longer race then the District race. Our seating was really bad because we had to sit on wet, snake infested grass (We didn't actually see any snakes). Another thing that was really annoying was that the cross country was really muddy and wet. I guess cross country is usually like that.

I came 27th out of the 11 year old boys Box Hill North District. I probably could have done better if there was better seating and if I had trained a bit more.

Circus Skills

The last 3 weeks we have been doing circus skills. Right now we are learning stilts, hoola hoops, mini hula hoops, plates, devil sticks, starves, diablo, juggling and pois. We also did these things last year.
My favourite one is the plates. That is because when I did it, it makes me feel happy.
But my least favourite one is the mini hula hoop because you only spin it around your hands and necks.

I hope there is circus skills next year.

Japanese Drumming

We went to the Box Hill Community Art Center to see Japanese Drumming. All of the 5 and 6's went there. It was really loud and it looked very fun to do. There werea different types of percussion  instruments. It was really fun to watch and awesome. Then after we looked at some art and it was beautiful. Then after we were waiting for the bus then we left. We ate lunch when we came back and then we started reading and relaxing after a busy day.

Circus Skills

Circus skills is fun and exciting;we had fun playing with the things Ben brought in. There was hula hoops, diablos, plates, stilts and more. I bet we will be doing the plates for the grade while the other grades are doing something else!Anyway,we think that circus skills is going to get better and better.
  best wishes,Judy

Making the dragon

I really enjoy making the paperdragon in 5A. We making paper dragon with 4/5A in reading group time. Making dragon is more fun, like it. We make 2 kind of dragon. one kind is the dragon head, and another kind of paperdragon is a whole dragon, and you must use stick. Making dragon is very fun. I like it.

THE BIG BLOG UPGRADE

On the 25th of May. Zach, Isaac, Kevin and I upgraded the blog so it could look HARDER, BETTER, FASTER and STRONGER!! We started off with a class profile. Then Mrs V came and saw we were upgrading our blog. So she told us there was a website that had pretty cool backgrounds called Leelou blogs. So we went to that website and got to freebee backgrounds. There were pretty girly ones but we found one cool background: It was a giant splash of colour!! So then we got our teacher, Ms Keogh, to put the background on the blog. Well, it ended up as the desktop background being the background from Leelou blogs! And when we got the Leelou background on the blog it was RUBBISH!!! So then we got a background from blogger and it was pretty sweet! After Kevin finished the class profile we typed it up and “5A Blog 2.0” was ready to go!!

Chess Competition

On Wednesday the 25th we had a chess competition we played 7 matches against other school's we played in the Multipurpose room and the other schools were Balwyn North and Blackburn Lake primary school. It was really hard, I won 3 games out of seven. There were about 20 Kerrimuir competitors out of all the schools and there were 65 people. We had team A and team B for Kerrimuir, I was in team A. Team A came third out of the schools and teams, if you came in the top 3 of the teams and if you were one of the people who was in the top six and won a lot of games you got a medal.

School

By Vinh 5A

On the 15th of march 2011 5A, the grade 5’s from 4/5A, 6C and 5/6A are going on school camp at Forest Lodge Farm. It’s going to be great fun!

There’s going to be hut building, canoeing, low ropes, a flying fox, a giant swing and lots of other great activities!

I’m going to be asking other people about how excited they are about camp and how they think they will feel when they go. Here’s one comment from Deji in 5A. He says: “I’m very excited because I want to go on the giant swing”.Another comment from Isaac in 5A. He says: “I think it’s going to be good”. And another comment from Jessie in 5A .she says “camp food is yummy”.

It seems that everybody is very excited about camp and so am I. I will be doing another blog entry when we come back from the awesome great exciting ultra ultimate super fair dinkum camp.

5/6 Camp!

On 15th the March all the level 4s are going to camp. I will have to be at school around 8:45 that day. The level 4s includes the grade 5s from 4/5A, 5A, 5/6A and 6C. The camp we’re going to is called Forest Lodge. We will be going for 4 days and 3 nights (I hope the food is good). I could be in the same cabin as my friend Rachael but I am not quite sure yet. I also really want to be in the same cabin with the following people: Nana, Chrysoula and Eliza. Hope I have fun at camp and others as well.

Excited About Swimming

Some of the 5A kids are going swimming on the 2nd of March 2011 and that’s today at 12:30 PM! Swimmers from 5A are super excited and ready to go. Some of us have trained during the weekends and some have us have not. 5A are super confident about winning today, even if we lost, the thing that counts is that we all tried our best.

Mums are going to come to school at 12:15 to take us to Doncaster Swimming Pool and we are approximately going to come back at around 2:30pm.

Well now today’s the 4th of March so we've come back from swimming. Swimming was great. Rachael, Olivia, Tyla and Joel have gone to Zone or district because they were good. I did Backstroke, and 2 Freestyle relays. I came 5th in all of them because I applied for Freestyle and I got Backstroke, I have been practising Freestyle all weekend as well. On Freestyle relay, the first one my goggles fell out so I got a bad start and on the 2nd one my bathers fell off so I got another bad start! Oh it was awful.

The best thing was, when we were getting back we got Mcflurry’s Oreos from McDonalds! When we got back everyone was jealous! Especially Judy.
